Is the AfD close to becoming a governing party? Polls suggest the party is set to win around 40 percent of the vote in the upcoming state elections in Saxony-Anhalt. Using the state parliament election on September 6 as a starting point, we join journalist Justus Bender, author Jean-Philippe Kindler, and political scientist Heike Klüver to look at the first live election projections and ahead: What is the state of Germany’s political landscape? How close are we, really, to a scenario in which the AfD holds power?
