William Hitchcock

ist James-Madison-Professor für Geschichte und Direktor des Programms »Governing America in a Global Era« an der University of Virginia. Er promovierte in Geschichte an der Yale University. Seine Forschung und Lehre konzentrieren sich auf die Weltgeschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts – insbesondere auf den Ersten und Zweiten Weltkrieg sowie den Kalten Krieg. Zu seinen wichtigsten Publikationen zählen u.a. das für den Pulitzer Preis nominierte Sachbuch »The Bitter Road to Freedom: A New History of the Liberation of Europe« (2008) und der New York Times-Bestseller »The Age of Eisenhower: America and the World in the 1950s« (2018). Er war Fulbright-Stipendiat in Belgien und Fellow am Rothermere American Institute der Universität Oxford. Im Herbst 2025 ist William Hitchcock Fellow an der American Academy in Berlin, wo er sein Buch über die amerikanische Antwort auf den Aufstieg des Faschismus’ in den 1920er und 1930er fertigstellt.
