Abbas Khider was born in Baghdad in Iraq, in 1973. He was arrested aged nineteen for political reasons and after his release, he fled Iraq. Since 2000 he has been living in Germany and studying literature and philosophy in Munich. Khider has published two collections of poetry and one volume of essays in Arabic. His first novel was written and published in German: »Der falsche Inder« (2008, The Fake Indian). In 2009 he was awarded the Alfred-Döblin scholarship of the Academy of Arts Berlin. He currently lives in Berlin and Beirut.
