Queerness in Southeast Asia

What does it mean for LGBTQI+ authors who write openly about their identity to publish in Southeast Asia? The authors Marylyn Tan from Singapore and Norman Erikson Pasaribu from Indonesia discuss the respective regional contexts of queerness in Southeast Asia with the political scientist Khoo Ying Hooi from Malaysia: How do activists and authors organize themselves in the sometimes very restrictive discursive contexts? And how do they try to express themselves in their texts and offer political resistance?

With Khoo Ying Hooi, Norman Erikson Pasaribu, Marylyn Tan

Moderated by Ruth Streicher
