Max Czollek: Zweifelssohn

Reading

Perhaps a prophet, perhaps an enlightened teacher? Certainly, a doubter. In Max Czollek’s long-awaited debut novel, a protagonist whose very name carries doubt embarks on an unusual journey through Germany. Named after the Jewish philosopher Mendelssohn and armed with the apocalyptic visions of the prophet Jeremiah, Zweifelssohn moves between hotel rooms and train bistros. Sometimes repressing, sometimes perceptive, his gaze turns toward a violent present.
