A STORY FOR EUROPE – WHAT KIND OF CHILDREN’S AND YOUNG ADULT LITERATURE DOES EUROPE NEED?

In 2012, the Children´s and Youth Programme of the berlin international literature festival presented readings, workshops and panels about the question: A Story for Europe – What kind of Children´s and Young Adult Literature does Europe need? 26 authors and illustrators discussed the question and captured their thoughts in articles, essays or short stories. Furthermore, each guest recommended a book for young readers. Thus, a multi-faceted panorama emerged which – thanks to the support of Programm Kultur der Generaldirektion Bildung und Kultur der Europäischen Kommission – was published as a book with the Vorwerk Verlag.

The authors and illustrators are: Azouz Begag (F), Chen Jianghong (RC/F), Mariana Chiesa Mateos (RA/I), Iwona Chmielewska (PL), Gabriela Cichowska (PL), Dibou (F/ET), Enzo (RC, TW), Kate De Goldi (NZ), Golo (F/ET), John Green (USA), Finn-Ole Heinrich (D), Tendai Huchu (GB, SCO/ZW), Adam Jaromir (D/PL), Gerald Jatzek (AUT), Farideh Khalatbaree (IR), Jan de Leeuw (B), Nils Mohl (D), Salah Naoura (D), Uri Orlev (PL/IL), Maria Papayanni (GR), Maria Parr (N), Peter Pohl (D/S), Iva Procházková (CZ/D), Janne Teller (DK), Rachel Ward (GB), Robert Paul Weston (GB) und Floortje Zwigtman (NL).
