Dear audience,

has your love of reading also been with you since childhood? During the 26th ILB, we invite you and your children to experience literature together and discover new books on both festival Sundays. A creative program of hands-on activities complements a stage program featuring interactive readings and a children’s concert.

Lesesause

At the premiere of her new search-and-find picture book, Cornelia Funke takes families along to the place «Wo Feen Nester bauen und Kobolde aus Büchern schlüpfen» – where fairies build nests and goblins hatch out of books. In Eymard Toledo’s collage book «Kayabu», readers learn more about Indigenous communities in the Amazon. Dave Eggers, who will present his new novel «Contrapposto» to an adult audience the evening before, takes us into the jungle at Lesesause: «We became Jaguars» is a celebration of imagination and play. Ayşe Klinge presents her comic «Der Zahn», nominated for the German Children’s Literature Award – a funny story about the friendship between a vampire and a girl who is terrified of vampires. And to wrap up the day, everyone is invited to dance along at a concert by the Muckemacher!

Alongside the events, children can explore the Haus der Berliner Festspiele on a scavenger hunt, decorate bookmarks, design their own book covers, or have their faces painted as characters from their favorite books. Food and refreshments will also be available for a break between all the exploring and activities.

With the exception of the book premiere with Cornelia Funke, all events and activities are free of charge.

International Family Festival

On September 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., FamilienFest International will take place for the 24th time at die gelbe Villa in Kreuzberg. The festival opens with a puppet show by Flohzirkus Zakapüs. Then, in her picture book «Bravo!», Orit Gidali takes children into a theater where the roles of stage and audience are suddenly reversed.
In Elin Lindell’s children’s book «12 Süßigkeiten und 2 Todesfälle», a palliative care ward becomes a place for play and sharing sweets, while in Constantin Satüpo’s picture book «My Most Ordinary Home», a house grows arms and legs so it can accompany children as they flee their home. The day ends with a concert by Raketen Erna, inviting everyone to sing and dance along!

Alongside the stage program, there will be arts and crafts, games, and food from the grill to enjoy in between activities.

Familien Fest International is free of charge.
An event presented by the ILB, die gelbe Villa, and JugendKulturService.
