In his harrowing and extremely topical documentary, which opened the 2022 Dok.Fest Munich, Canadian director Daniel Roher reconstructs the poisoning and attempted murder of Alexei Navalny, Russian opposition leader and »public enemy No. 1«. After recovering and returning to Russia, Navalny was sent to the Pokrov prison camp near Moscow and his sentence was extended to nine years in prison for alleged fraud. In June, he was transferred to an undisclosed location. »Navalny’s resistance cell has a small, charmingly ad hoc air about it. But the film brilliantly captures the innate foolishness of his opponents, too – the absurdity as well as the darkness« [Guardian].
