Paul Nizon was born in Bern in December 1929, studied German, archaeology and art history, earned his doctorate on Vincent Van Gogh and chose a life as a writer in the early 1960s. After stations in Berlin and Munich, he has lived in Paris since 1977 and won many international literary prizes.
