Curator in Residence

A major innovation in the program of the international literature festival berlin since 2024 has been the appointment of the* curator(s) in residence. An international selection committee chooses a literary personality who works closely with the team for a year, curates part of the program and finds a central theme for the respective festival edition.

In 2024, the Nigerian-American writer Helon Habila was appointed Curator in Residence at the 24th ilb.

Within the program of the 24th ilb, Curator in Residence Helon Habila curated 15 events at the festival, six thematic panels, six book presentations, a workshop and a film screening with conversation, in which international authors share their different perspectives on a topic and current new releases introduce. In Helon Habila: The Art of Writing, the writer, who was recently honored with the KabaFest Lifetime Award for his life’s work, finally talks about his own writing.
