berlin reads

Since 2012, the opening of the ilb has been preceded by »berlin reads«, a city-wide campaign where all bookworms and authors are encouraged to read a text they’ve chosen – or one recommended by ilb – at a place of their choice. In this way, a city-wide literature performance takes place as a warm-up to the festival and a welcome to our arriving authors. Parents who read a very special book to (their) children may also take part in the action!

We call on all interested parties – private individuals as well as institutions – to read a prose text or poems of their choice at a location of their choice on Sunday, September 4, 2022. Please register your reading at the latest by August 30, 2022: berlinliest@literaturfestival.com

The international literature festival berlin recommends books by authors who will be coming to Berlin in September. We would be glad, if any of you were to read from these books. However, self-written or other selected texts can also be read.

Readings by third parties from texts that are not in the public domain must always be authorised by the publisher; this also applies to the permanent online publication of the reading. Such permission may be subject to a fee.
The translation of a text into another language is also only possible with the permission of the publisher and author. Reading rights for original versions of a text translated into German are usually held by the original foreign publisher.

The registered readings will be advertised on the ilb website and on social media.
