Xifan Yang

born in Hengyang in 1988, is a journalist and author. She came to Germany with her family when she was four years old. She studied at the German School of Journalism in Munich and then worked as a freelance correspondent. Since 2018, she has been reporting from Beijing as China correspondent for »Die Zeit«. She is the winner of the German Reporter Award and the Egon Erwin Kisch Award. In »Als die Karpfen fliegen lernten« (2015; tr: When The Carp Learned to Fly), she recounts China’s recent history, drawing on her own family’s experience.
