Wilfried F. Schoeller was born in 1941 in Illertissen. He studied German, History, Art History and Philosophy in Munich. In 1968 he did his PhD on Heinrich Mann and worked from 1965 to 1970 as publishing editor and then as freelance author. Since 1972 Schoeller is literary editor at Hessian Broadcasting, for a long time he worked as head of the “Current Culture and music” department. Since 2000 Schoeller is honorary professor for Literature of the 20th Century, Literary Criticism and Media at the University of Bremen. His work ranges from publications and radio plays to literary documentaries on Heinrich Mann, B. Traven, Christa Wolf, Alfred Döblin and Uwe Johnson. Since 2002 Schoeller is secretary general of the German P.E.N.
