born in Berlin in 1940, is a writer and textile artist. Her literary work operates at the interface of biography, contemporary history, and fiction. She achieved her literary breakthrough with »Das Verschwinden des Philip S.« [2013; Eng. »The Disappearance of Philip S.«]. She has been awarded the Johann-Jacob-Christoph von Grimmelshausen Prize and the Günter Grass Prize from the city of Lübeck. Edschmid lives in Berlin.
