Mark O’Connell

born in 1979. Based on in-depth interviews and research journeys, »To Be a Machine« (2017) portrays quasi-religious technology trends and transhumanist cravings to eradicate death through AI, cryonics, mind uploading, or cyborg-like extensions. For this most contemporary investigation, he was awarded the prestigious Wellcome Book Prize in 2018. His reportages, reviews and essays are published in »The New York Times Magazine«, »The New Yorker«, »Slate«, and »The Guardian«. He lives in Dublin.
