Jozef Banáš

born in 1948 in Bratislava, he worked as a diplomat in Czechoslovakia. After 1992 he was a member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic and head of the permanent delegation to the Council of Europe and in the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO, amongst others. In his documentary novel »Zóna nadšenia« (2009; tr: Jubilant Zone) he sketches a love story set against the backdrop of historical events, in which the theme of the secret police has been focused upon for the first time in Czechoslovakia.
