Janosch Schobin

born in 1981, is a sociologist whose research focuses, among other things, on loneliness, friendship, and gaming. In 2024, he completed his habilitation at the University of Kassel with the thesis »Einsamkeit und Spiel. Schlüsselbegriffe einer Soziologie der Gegenwartsgesellschaft« [Tr: Loneliness and Play: Key Concepts of a Sociology of Contemporary Society]. Research stays have taken him to New York and Santiago de Chile. Schobin has published numerous monographs, edited volumes, and essays; his most recent work is »Zeiten der Einsamkeit. Erkundungen eines universellen Gefühls« [Tr: Times of Loneliness: Explorations of a Universal Emotion, 2025]. In addition to holding a leadership position at the Institut für Sozialarbeit und Sozialpädagogik e.V, he works as a research associate in the Kompetenznetz Einsamkeit at the same institute. Schobin lives in Kassel.
