born in 1934 in Brno, he studied German, History and English in Tübingen. He has worked as a journalist for various newspapers and magazines, including »Spiegel«, was head dramaturge of the Staatstheater Stuttgart, co-editor of »Tagesspiegel« and was a member of the Literarischen Quartett (ZDF). He is currently a member of the P.E.N.-Zentrums and the Akademie der Künste Hamburg. He lives in Hamburg and is currently professor at the local theater studies institute.
