Biography
Hartmut Fähndrich was born in Tübingen in 1944 and studied Semitic and Islamic studies and comparative literarature . Since 1984 he has been editor of the Arabic literature list for the Swiss publisher Lenos. Fähndrich is one of the most important translators working from Arabic into German. He has been awarded many prizes for his translations, including the Arabic League’s Prize For Translation (2004). In 2008 he won the international translation prize awarded by the guardian of the two Holy Places, King Abdallah Ibn Abdalsîs (Saudi-Arabia).
