Gerd Koenen
born 1944 in Marburg/Lahn. Politically active in the leftist scene, he studied French Language and Literature, History and Political Science. This historian, writer and publicist focuses on Eastern European history, German-Russian relations and the history of Communism. Koenen won the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding together with Michail Ryklin in 2007 for »Der Russland-Komplex« (2005) (tr: »The Russia Complex«).The author lives in Frankfurt/Main.
