Fatema Mernissi

Fatema Mernissi was born in Fez, Morocco in 1940. After graduating in political science and sociology in Rabat and Paris she received a doctorate in the US. In 1975 she rejected misogynist interpretations of the Koran with “Beyond the Veil” and in numerous publications has pleaded for an understanding between the Western and Islamic worlds based on democracy. Mernissi teaches at the University of Rabat.
