Biography
Born in Reims in 1953, the sociologist, philosopher and publicist is one of the most important intellectuals in France. He was a professor at the University of Amiens, a visiting scholar at the universities of Berkeley, Cambridge and Zurich, and a Montgomery Fellow at Dartmouth College. His works include the biography »Michel Foucault« (1991) and »Réflexions sur la question gay« (1999; engl. »Insult and the Making of the Gay Self«, 2004). His international bestseller »Retour à Reims” (2009; engl. »Returning to Reims«, 2018), translated into several languages, in which he combines autobiographical reflection with sociological analysis, has been adapted for television and theatre. Eribon regularly comments on political events.
