Caryl Lewis

Caryl Lewis was born in Dihewyd, West Wales and studied at the universities of Durham and Aberystwyth. She is a freelance author writing for both children and adults, and she also writes for the theatre, television and film. Her short novel »Iawn Boi?« (t: OK, man?) won the Best Welsh Children’s Fiction award in 2004, and her novel for adults »Martha, Jac a Sianco« (t: Martha, Jac and Sianco) was Welsh Book of the Year in 2005, and has this year been translated into English. It depicts in realistic style the decaying structures of rural life in the story of three siblings who manage a farm together. Lewis has published over fifteen titles, including her recent novel »Y Gemydd« (2007). She lives on a farm close to where she was born.
