Antje Boetius

born in 1967, is a German deep-sea and polar researcher, and Professor of Geomicrobiology at University Bremen. She studied biological oceanography in Hamburg and San Diego. Since 2008 she leads the joint Deep Sea Ecology and Technology group between the Alfred Wegener Institute and the Max Planck Institute for marine Microbiology. She has participated in over 45 research expeditions, and was awarded the Leibniz Prize by the DFG amongst many other academic honors.
