German Book Premiere
For decades, the Uyghurs have been persecuted in China and interned in camps; the first states speak of genocide. Literary testimonies from those affected are rare, because only those who escape can report – like Tahir Hamut Izgil, who lives in exile. His moving report »Waiting to Be Arrested at Night« describes »the unstoppable expansion of the primitive and high-tech surveillance machinery (…) that choked off Izgil and his peers at the behest of the Beijing central government« (Tagesspiegel).
With Joshua Freeman, Tahir Hamut Izgil
Moderated by Corenlius Dieckmann.
The event will be held in Uyghur and English.
»Waiting to be Arrested at Night« was translated from Uyghur into English by Joshua Freeman. »In Erwartung meiner nächtlichen Verhaftung« was translated from English into German by Ulrike Kretschmer.
