The series »Words of Love and Hate: Misogyny vs. Female Empowerment« has presented contemporary feminist literature since 2021. It sheds light on texts that take a stand on misogyny, abuse, and disregard for women. In reportages, autobiographical essays, manifestos, and novels, authors talk about femicide, solidary and utopian gender relations, or about how community can be shaped and lived.
In 2023, we examine ideas of gender roles. Do we need more female geniuses – and fewer male ones? Do we need more sensitive men? What do men today have to say about images of masculinity? A look at the category ›ugliness‹ shows that empathy is not always a given when dealing with each other. We want to know: Who actually determines what is considered beautiful and what is considered ugly? We also discuss what it can mean to be trans and to determine one’s own gender. And we present an attempt to take possession of an experience of violence: literature will be used as a means to address femicide. In addition, the series looks at where blind spots may be lurking: Why, for instance, do we know so little about the history of female criminality?
The event series is sponsored by the Foundation Women in Europe/ TuWas Foundation for Solidarity.
