“What Matters” is a film project on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which the international literature festival launched and completed in 2017/2018. The film features 30 authors, actors, students, and pupils from different countries, each of whom reads one article of the famous declaration. Among others, it features Vivienne Westwood, Nina Hoss, Can Dündar, Patti Smith, Simon Rattle, Ai Weiwei, Elfriede Jelinek, and David Grossman.
The film is currently subtitled in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, German, English, French, Hindi, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the declaration, “What Matters” was screened in the Berlin House of Representatives and presented in the Arte Journal on December 10, 2018. The film was also shown at the George Town Literary Festival, Malaysia and at The Americas Film Festival of New York (TAFFNY).
