Dear Audience,
Finally, the 24th international literature festival is open! We started this year’s festival with music and literature, with stories about favorite foods and longing, but also about revolution and violence.
For me, too, it all began with a story,” says Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse, this year’s opening speaker, author and survivor of the genocide in Rwanda, in her personal and moving speech about listening and being listened to. And our Curator in Residence, Helon Habila, will also talk about the festival as a place of listening and exchange.
The coming festival days will therefore be characterized by community, encounters and the discovery of very different stories and perspectives on our “strange new world”. You can look forward to 150 authors from over 50 countries, readings, discussions, workshops and dinners together in our festival kitchen.
