In solidarity with the protests in Iran, the international literature festival berlin, together with international authors, is calling for a »Worldwide Reading« of Iranian literature on December 10, 2022.

The death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in Iranian police custody on September 16, 2022, has sparked a broad protest movement within the Iranian population. The Iranian regime has responded with threats and open violence.

With the »Worldwide Reading« the participants protest against this brutal violence. The project aims to shine a light on the struggle of Iranian women for equal rights and the quest of the Iranian people for democracy.

Among the first signatories of the appeal are Booker Prize winner Margaret Atwood, Pulitzer Prize winner Junot Díaz and Peace Prize winners Navid Kermani and Liao Yiwu.

Invited to participate on December 10, 2022 – the international Human Rights Day – are individuals, schools, universities, cultural institutions and media organizations. For the reading, we recommend Iranian literature texts, classical and modern, such as poems by Forough Farrokhzad and short stories by Shahrnush Parsipur.

All further information on participation can be found in the call for the »Worldwide Reading«. The program of the »Worldwide Reading« is also constantly updated on this page.
