After his international bestseller »Der totale Rausch« [eng. Blitzed: Drugs in Nazi Germany] about the rarely discussed role of drugs in the Third Reich, Norman Ohler dedicates his latest book to LSD and psilocybin, which is extracted from Mexican mushrooms – in their function as intoxicants, as a means of mind control as well as a remedy. His focus is on the interplay between research, government authorities, and hedonistic drug culture, as well as the consequences of undifferentiated prohibition policies.
