Under the title »Literature Behind Bars«, the international literature festival berlin organizes annual readings in correctional facilities throughout the city. Internationally renowned ilb guests have gone behind bars during the festival to read from their books and engage in conversation with inmates – always an unforgettable experience for both sides.
In »Vaters Meer«, his third and latest novel, Deniz Utlu, writer and Alfred Döblin Award winner, tells of a stroke of fate that affects an entire family, of a father-son relationship that ends abruptly, and of migration and belonging. »In an immediately touching and humorous language, Deniz Utlu lets us participate in the conflicts, celebrations, and everyday life of a family. The reading, which will take place at the Justizvollzugsanstalt des Offenen Vollzuges [Berlin Open Prison], will also be open to a limited number of external visitors. Tickets for this event are only available online. Please bring a valid identification document to the event, without which admission cannot be granted.
Ilija Trojanow, Mohammed Alnaas, Francesca Melandri, and Amir Gudarzi will also be performing at the Prisons Tegel, Heidering, for Women Berlin and the Juvenile Detention Center Berlin. These readings are not open to the public.
