In »A Ghost in the Throat«, translated into German by Cornelius Reiber and Jens Friebe, Doireann Ní Ghríofa interweaves the life story of an 18th century Irish noblewoman, author of the famous Gaelic dirge »Eibhlín Dubh Ní Chonaills Caoineadh Airt Uí Laoghaire«, with her own biography. The sentence »This is a female text« unfolds a leitmotif effect: the author »tells so poetically, powerful of language, as sometimes to wince raw and drastic of the experiences that a man can not make« (FR).
