Beyond Western Mythologies

Jennifer Neal’s debut novel »Notes on Her Color« combines Florida kitsch and magical realism in a coming-of-age story about a woman who learns to change the color of her skin. Ayanna Lloyd Banwo’s »When We Were Birds«, translated into German by Michaela Grabinger, tells a magical love story: Emmanuel, a young Rastafarian, works in Port Angeles, Trinidad at the cemetery, which is not only a resting place for the dead. The two young authors talk about storytelling beyond Western mythologies.

A cooperation with the Cluster of Excellence »Temporal Communities: Doing Literature in a Global Perspective« at Freie Universität Berlin.

The event is in English.

Hosted by Toby Ashraf.

Ayanna Lloyd Banwo is unfortunately unable to travel to Berlin, at short notice, and will therefore be joining us remotely.
