Discussion, Reading with picture-book-cinema, Q&A
Berta’s father has his mind set: Her life’s purpose is housework and tending to the family farm. But Berta dreams of a life as an artist and inwardly resists the rigid expectations placed upon her. She finds support from her ill mother. When she passes away, Berta can no longer bear it, and the bird within her begins to spread its wings. A virtuosically illustrated picture book, inspired by paintings, letters, and diary entries of Swedish painter Berta Hansson.
