A river as a character, an owl as narrator, and the sun as the source of all life’s energy: Julia Fiedorczuk’s novel »Pod słońcem« (tr. Below the Sun) places the (poetic) power of light at its centre. Yvonne Owuor, recipient of the renowned Caine Prize for African Writing, founded the Nature Poetry Retreat, which offers young poets the opportunity to explore new narratives of environment and memory in the landscape of the Turkana Rift. Together they speak about the influence of the elements on their writing.
