Don Pablo Mulemba: Hundeheimat

Reading

Reading

Don Pablo Mulemba grows up in Brandenburg as the son of an East German and an Angolan contract worker. As a Black child, he repeatedly faces racism. During the years of intensifying neo-Nazi violence (‹Springerstiefeljahre›), these attacks escalate, and his parents decide to move to his father’s homeland. Their son stays behind and goes on to attend a sports boarding school in Cottbus. In this autobiographical narrative, Don Pablo Mulemba offers a nuanced reflection on his family history – and on a piece of Germany’s history.
