David A. Robertson: On the Trapline

Discussion, Reading with picture-book-cinema, Q&A

A boy and Moshom, his grandfather, visit a place that means a lot to Moshom. It’s the trapline where he grew up, hunted, and lived off the land. As they travel further and further north, the boy imagines what life must have been like two generations ago and compares it to his life in the city today. In a reduced, soft, honest style without embellishment, the illustrations and text come together to tell of the culture and traditions of the Indigenous Cree people.
