La Matosa is located in the middle of the Mexican countryside. Violence, prostitution, and drug trafficking shapes everyday life here. In a breathless style and with a language as raw as that of the protagonists themselves, Fernanda Melchor describes life in this desolate place in her second novel, which was awarded the Anna Seghers Prize and the International Literature Prize by the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin.
