After the parliamentary elections at the end of 2020, from which the party of democratically elected State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi once again emerged as the winner, the military in Myanmar instigated a coup on February 1, 2021, and imposed martial law. Since then, the military has used deadly force against protesters and opposition.
