Spotlight On Beirut. Lena Bopp In Conversation With Marie-claude Souaid-hesse

On August 4, 2020, 2750 tons of highly explosive ammonium nitrate exploded in the port of Beirut. More than 200 people were killed, thousands were injured, and many buildings were destroyed or damaged far beyond the port area. To date, no one has been charged as the perpetrator. – Beirut and Lebanon are in the greatest crisis since World War 2. Even electricity, water and gasoline can no longer be taken for granted. Lena Bopp (FAZ, living in Beirut) talks about the genesis of this crisis, the current situation and future prospects with Beirut-based sociologist and anthropologist Dr. Marie-Claude Souaid-Hesse, who will also report on her work in NGOs.
