Sergei Loznitsa’s films have won numerous awards. In recent years, his documentary »Maidan« [2014], about the protests in Kyiv and the revolution that started in 2014, and the feature film »Donbass« [2018], about the military conflict in eastern Ukraine, which won the Best Director award in the »Un Certain Regard« category at Cannes 2018, have received particular attention. His latest work, »The Natural History of Destruction«, inspired by W.G. Sebald’s essay of the same name, is a montage of archival footage about the destruction tactics of the British and German air forces during World War II. In a discussion, Loznitsa reveals how political and social upheavals shape his work.
