
Volodymyr Yermolenko

born in 1980 in Kyiv, is a Ukrainian philosopher, journalist, and writer. He studied at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and the Central European University in Budapest, completing his PhD in 2011 at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. Since then, he has been an associate professor at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and serves as Director of Analytics at the NGO Internews Ukraine. He is hosting the podcasts »Explaining Ukraine« and »Thinking in Dark Times« and is also editor-in-chief of »UkraineWorld.org«, an English-language multimedia project about Ukraine. As an author, he has received numerous awards, including the Myroslav Popovych Award (2021), the Petro Mohyla Award (2021), the Yurii Shevelov Prize (2018), and Ukraine’s Book of the Year Award (2023, 2018, 2015). His work has appeared in »The Economist«, »Le Monde«, »Financial Times«, »The New York Times«, and »Newsweek«. Since November 2022, he has been President of PEN Ukraine. He lives and works in Kyiv.
