Tayo Awosusi-Onutor
Tayo Awosusi-Onutor is a singer, writer, director, political activist, living in Berlin. She describes herself as Afro-Sintezza. She plays her music in English, German and Romanes. She also lends her voice to film and TV as a dubbing singer and speaker. Tayo studied German and multimedia. She is a board member of RomaniPhen e.V., the feminist Romnja Archive and member of the IniRomnja. She is engaged in the topics of education, history and the civil rights movement. In 2017, she published the film documentary »Phral mende – Wir über uns. Perspektiven von Sinti* und Roma* in Deutschland« (Eng. »Phral mende – We about us. Perspectives of Sinti and Roma in Germany«). In 2021 Tayo´s first children´s book »JOKESI Club. Jekh, Dui, Drin – 3 Freundinnen in Berlin« (Eng. »JOKESI Club. Jekh, Dui, Drin – 3 girlfriends in Berlin«) was published. In the book three girlfriends who are young Romnja or Sintizzi, are the heroines of the story. JOKESI Club is the first German children´s book series in which Romnja and Sintizzi are positively acting main characters of the story. The JOKESI Club series was published in March 2023 by the newly founded omobooks publishing house. Tayo is part of the board of the feminist Romnja archive RomaniPhen e.V. and is also politically active in various communities of color.
