Thomas Oberender

born in 1966 in Jena, is an author and dramaturg. In 1999 he earned his doctorate from the HU Berlin. From 2000–2005, he was the head dramaturg and member of the artistic direction at the Schauspielhaus Bochum. In 2005/06 he was head dramaturg and co-director at the Schauspielhaus Zürich. From 2006–2011 he was director of the Salzburger Festspiele. He has directed the Berliner Festspiele since 2012. He writes and translates plays, essays, and reviews and has published several books.
