
Mazda Mehrgan

born in Kabul, is an Afghan poet. She began writing poetry at the age of seventeen and continued to do so while studying medical technology and working in the registry office. Her socio-political poems take a stand against religious dictatorships and advocate for minorities who face gender-based discrimination. In 2018, she was awarded the Prize for Young Afghan Poetry, and in 2023 she received the Jaleh Esfahani Poetry Prize. A digital collection of her poems was published in 2019. Following the Taliban takeover, she was forced to leave her home country in 2023 and now lives in Bad Driburg, Germany. Since then, Mazda Mehrgan has been part of Weiter Schreiben, a literary platform for authors from war and crisis zones. In 2024 and 2025, she published poems through the program including »Fatherland Poetry« and »For Papa«.
