
Laura Laabs

born in 1985 in East Berlin, is a freelance director and writer. Her feature film »Red Stars over the Field« received the 2025 Max Ophüls Prize from the film critics’ jury, as well as awards for Best Feature Film and Best Screenplay at the Achtung Berlin Festival. That same year, she took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt as an author. She studied political science and film studies, as well as directing at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf. Laura Laabs has directed series, short films, and music videos, and also works as a radio play director. Among other projects, she oversaw the 13-part adaptation of Bernardine Evaristo’s novel »Girl, Woman, Other«. She is a co-founder of the feminist collective »r.O.k.s.«, has been selected for the »Into the Wild« mentoring program, and awarded the Villa Serpentara fellowship from the Junge Akademie der Künste. Her literary debut, »Adlergestell«, will be published in 2025. Laura Laabs lives in Berlin and Bad Kleinen.
