Larissa Bender

born in 1958 in Cologne. She studied Islamic studies, ethnology, sociology, art history, and Arabic in Cologne, Berlin, and Damascus. Bender translates Arabic-language fiction and non-fiction from Syria, Iraq, Egypt, and Lebanon (Samar Yazbek, Dima Wannous, Fadhil al-Azzawi, Jabbour Douaihy, Youssef Ziedan, Abd al-Rahman Munif) and works as a journalist, lecturer, moderator, text editor, and consultant, providing expertise in Arabic culture, literature, politics, and society.
