Katja Hoyer

born in 1985 in Guben, studied history at the Friedrich-Schiller-University in Jena. She is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a Visiting Research Fellow at King’s College London. Hoyer is a Global Opinions columnist for »The Washington Post« and regularly contributes to British newspapers such as »The Spectator«, »The Daily Telegraph«, and »The Times«. Her first book, »Blood and Iron: The Rise and Fall of the German Empire 1871-1918« (2021), was celebrated critically and was recognized as one of the best books of 2021 by »The Financial Times«. She is also the author of the Sunday Times Bestseller »Beyond the Wall: East Germany, 1949-1990« (2023). Additionally, she co-hosts the podcast »The New Germany« for the Körber-Stiftung and writes a blog called »Zeitgeist«.
