Karolina Wigura

Karolina Wigura is a sociologist and intellectual historian. She is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Liberal Modernity based in Berlin, a board member of Kultura Liberalna (Liberal Culture), Poland’s leading political and cultural online weekly, and an assistant professor of sociology at the University of Warsaw. She is also a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations. Her research focuses on the role of emotions in politics, nationalism, populism, and German-Polish relations. For her interview with Jürgen Habermas, “Europę ogarnia śmiertelny bezwład” (Europe in Mortal Paralysis), she received the Grand Press Prize in Poland. Her book Post-Traumatic Sovereignty (Berlin 2023, co-authored with Jarosław Kuisz) addresses the impact of the war in Ukraine on Central and Eastern Europe. She writes for The Guardian, The New York Times, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, TAZ, Gazeta Wyborcza, and other publications.
