Julian Nida-Rümelin, born in Munich in 1954, is a philosopher, author, and emeritus professor of philosophy and political theory at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. He is one of the most renowned German public intellectuals. In the 1990s, he taught at the Universities of Tübingen and Göttingen and was appointed Cultural Advisor to the City of Munich from 1998-2000 and Minister of State for Culture in the first Schröder cabinet from 2001-2002. He is the author of numerous publications and a member of the European Academy of Sciences, among others. He has been Deputy Chairman of the German Ethics Council since 2020.
